The Middle East is a region where automobile is king and fuel is inexpensive, typically leaving little reward to find more environmentally-friendly methods of moving around.

But this year, as demonstrations throughout the Middle East have risen the cost of oil, the issue of finding alternative sources of fuel has actually entered sharp focus.

In an area that has among the highest carbon footprints in the world, one organization is taking advantage of the growing pressure to find alternatives to oil. It’s set up the Middle East’s very first scheme to recycle cooking oil into biodiesel. It’s showing successful too, currently their client-list contains McDonald’s.
